In just six months, around 19 lakh tourists came to Mysuru Palace

Mysuru: Compared to the city’s other main attractions, Mysuru Palace saw 93,000 more visitors in the first half of the fiscal year 2024–2025.

Meanwhile, more visitors came to the zoo during the just-ended Dasara 2024.

There were 1,12,070 visitors to the palace and 1,19,865 visitors to the zoo during the first eight days of the Dasara celebrations, which took place from October 3 to October 10.

On October 11 and 12, visitors were not allowed to enter the palace. The zoo saw 37,746 visitors on Sunday, October 13, the day following the historic Dasara parade, and the palace saw 23,772 people.
Up to 1,16,749 tourists visited the palace during Dasara 2023, compared to 1,83,002 in the zoo. These figures show that fewer tourists traveled to Mysuru during the Dasara 2024 festivities.

In the meanwhile, Mysuru city’s main draw remains the palace. During the first half of this fiscal year, which ran from April 1 to September 30, 19,29,944 people visited the palace, while 18,36,163 people visited the zoo. In May, both of these tourist destinations saw the most visitors.

Following reports of water leaks during rainy seasons, experts encouraged the Mysuru Palace Board to prioritize the palace’s restoration efforts. The archaeology department began the palace’s most recent restoration and repair work twenty years ago.

Since then, no attempt has been made to begin the necessary restoration work. Any heritage building must be maintained in order to be preserved, according to NS Rangaraju, a member of the Mysuru Heritage Committee.

“The palace is making a ton of money from tourists. It is the main reason people come to Mysuru. A portion of the Palace Board’s earnings must be set aside for the restoration and remodeling projects. He insisted that an expert committee be established right away.
